Match: Toulouse vs Ajaccio
Competition: France – Ligue 1 Relegation Playoff
Time / Date: 22:00h / 27 May 2018
Venue: Stadium Municipal
Ahead of this play-off final second-leg game, Toulouse took a big step toward playing in their 16th consecutive Ligue 1 (L1) season by defeating second-tier AC Ajaccio 3-0 away in the first-leg.
Despite defeating Guingamp (2-1) at home in the final round of L1, Toulouse failed to save themselves from the relegation playoffs, finishing the regular season in 18th position. However, Mickaël Debève’s side come into this game after an impressive, and possibly decisive, performance last Wednesday in the first-leg.
After finishing third in the Ligue 2 (L2) standings, AC Ajaccio knocked out Le Havre in the one-game play-off semi-final winning the penalty shoot-out (5-3). Penalized following incidents against Le Havre, the Corsicans had to play the first-leg at a neutral ground and behind closed doors. Albert Cartier’s men now have to hope for a miracle if they are to overturn the three away-goals and return to the top-flight after four-straight seasons in L2.
No missing players
Wednesday’s affair was the first H2H encounter between these two sides since 2015 when Toulouse took a 2-0 victory in a pre-season friendly.
Their previous league encounters took place in the 2013/14 campaign when both matches ended without a winner with both teams on the score line.
Les Pitchouns are undefeated in last seven head to head matches against Ajaccio.
The visitors will have a hard to close 3 goals deficit, given that they have only one shot in the previous game. I expect Toulouse to make an easy victory.
