Match: Exeter City vs Lincoln City
Competition: England Two Play-off Semifinal Second Leg
Date/Time: 21:45h / 17 May 2018
Venue: St. James’ Park
The first leg at Sincil Bank produced a 0-0 draw, in which Exeter City showed the aesthetically appealing side of their game: the touch and control of midfielders Ryan Harley and Hiram Boateng, even centre-back Jordan Moore-Taylor, helped them create chances in the first half.
In the second period though, Lincoln City’s more agricultural approach bore fruit: they just need a simple ball into Matt Rhead and very quickly they can get his strike-partner Matt Green or midfielder Elliott Whitehouse into a goalscoring position, so the Grecians will require another commanding performance from goalkeeper Christy Pym.
Lincoln have the better of the head to head between these two sides with a record of 26 wins, 16 draws and 19 defeats. The sides last met in a 0-0 drawback last weekend.
The last three teams to draw a League Two play-off semi-final first leg away from home have all gone on to reach the final, so while the Imps threat should not be dismissed, Exeter are in pole position.
