The Copa del Rey final this year is a repeat of the 2016 edition when Barcelona beat Sevilla in Extra Time, in what turned into a bad-tempered affair. The Catalan giants are bidding for a fourth straight Copa del Rey here, a feat no side has achieved since Athletic Bilbao way back in the 1930’s.

Barcelona

Lionel Messi’s favourite opponents to face happen to be Sevilla, with the Argentine netting 30 goals in just 32 appearances against the Andalusian outfit.

Barcelona remain unbeaten in La Liga, but they have suffered defeats in both the Champions League and the Copa del Rey during the course of the campaign.

Sevilla

Sevilla are winless since their Champions League triumph against Manchester United, with Vincenzo Montella needing a trophy to aid his job security heading into the summer.

Missing players

Centre-back Simon Kjaer is carrying a hamstring problem and is set to miss out for hosts.

With Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets expected to be fit following injury problems, Barca should have their strongest eleven out.

Head-to-head

Barcelona won 2-0 after Extra Time when these sides met in the Copa del Rey final of 2016, a game which saw 3 red cards. Including that game, they’ve won 7 of the last 8 meetings with the exception being the most recent one, which ended 2-2 in Seville at the end of last month.

Prediction

Barca are coming into this match better prepared with the majority of their key players getting a rest in the midweek. The form is also strong and hardly any team in Spain managed to trouble them this season.

Sevilla are at the rock bottom of confidence with positive results are even against teams in the bottom half of the league table. The lack of depth in the playing squad coupled with the intense Champions League fixture had weighed them down. So, I don’t see them troubling the soon to be crowned La Liga champions on Saturday.

A Barcelona win offered at 1.46 odds is a banker, but my eyes are set on bigger price.
